More dog owners are choosing to feed grain-free foods. Selecting a grain-free diet is difficult, so here we will take a look at some of the best ones on the market.

If you have decided that a grain-free diet is right for your dog, the next step is figuring out which ones should be fed to your pet. Here, we will take a look at six brands of high quality grain-free dog foods that are available on the market. The aim of this article is not to say that one is better than the other, but rather, to profile the features and benefits of these foods, so that the pet owner can decide which one is right for their dog.

Natural Balance

Though pricey, Natural Balance has offered a consistent array of top-quality pet foods. After the recent large-scale pet food recall, Natural Balance began to do independent laboratory tests to ensure the quality of their ingredients. The consumer never has to worry about the quality of Natural Balance pet foods.

Natural Balance offers their grain-free diets in a variety of flavors, like sweet potato and fish, duck, and venison. These diets also use limited ingredients, so are perfect for dogs with allergies.

Nutram

The No Corn, No Wheat formula by Nutram is technically not a grain free diet, but the absence of the most common grain allergens of corn and wheat achieve the same effects on the health of a dog as a grain-free food. This formula is cheaper than other grain-free dog foods on the market, but is still of high quality.

Wellness Core

The Wellness brand of pet foods has always represented the pinnacle of nutrition for your pet. Their Core brand of grain-free foods is no exception. Wellness Core comes in three varieties, one of which is a calorie reduced diet. Calorie reduced grain-free dog foods for overweight animals can be difficult to find.

The Core line of pet foods also comes in cans. Wellness makes 95% canned meat diets, which complement the grain-free dry diets nicely. Variety in nutrition is what keeps animals healthy, and with 3 different grain-free dry dog foods, plus more than 5 different grain-free cans, Wellness has your dog covered.

Taste of the Wild

This is a newer brand of grain-free diets, and dogs seem to love it. There are three different formulas, which use uncommon meat proteins like buffalo, pheasant, and salmon. Uncommon meat proteins are great for dogs that are prone to allergic reactions.

Now!

Petcurean Pet Nutritionmakes some of the finest pet foods on the market today. They use nothing but the freshest and best ingredients. Now! is a food that is carefully formulated to provide grain-free nutrition to your dog that doesn't contain too many calories or too high a level of protein. This is important for dogs that get an average amount of exercise, as too much protein can cause the canine to become overweight.

Petcurean's Go! and Now! lines also include diets that are not grain-free, as a grain-free diet may not be for every dog, as well as diets for dogs of all ages and activity levels.

Merrick B.G.

Merrick's B.G. (Before Grain) pet food line is a hit amongst dogs and their owners. Like other grain-free foods, Merrick uses uncommon meat proteins, like buffalo and salmon, as well as more common meats, like chicken. The B.G. line also has different can diets so that you can offer your dog some variety.

Offering your dog a variety of different foods will keep them healthy, and your pet may do well on a grain-free diet. Just remember that when you are switching a dog's diet, do it gradually to prevent any stomach upsets or digestive problems.

I had my GSD on Natural Balance for awhile, he hated it. We're having much better success with the Taste of the Wild dog food, which he actually eats.
